Weekend Wrap Up - July 4th

This past weekend was well spent with family and friends.

Friday (July 4th):
- I got up and went into work for about three hours. I needed to get a few things accomplished while no emails were coming in.
- After I arrived home we went to Blank Park Zoo. The kids had a wonderful time. Caroline rode the camel and absolutely loved it. I had to sit on the hump, which wasn't too comfortable. I was glad when the ride was over. Her favorite part of the zoo was watching the giraffe's and while she was watching them, one of the giraffe's decided to lick the others behind. She yelled out, "Giraffe, that's gross, don't lick his butt."  I thought it was funny but told her that it wasn't nice to yell that out so loud. As a parent, sometimes you just have to crack up with what your kids say.
- In the evening, we went to Saylorville Lake to see the dam. There is a lot of water coming through the spillway due to the rain.

Saturday:
- We caught up on laundry and did a bit of house cleaning.
- We went shopping at Ankeny Prairie Trail Hy-Vee. The kids absolutely love the shopping cars there!
- We took long naps and after my nap, I got up and ran a 3.8 miles with Ryan. Okay, so maybe I didn't run the hills but it still felt awesome.
- In the evening we went to visit our Vogel friends and they had a ton of fun! The kids had fun playing in the sandbox, swing set, bounce house and the water. Little-C learned about squirt guns and she absolutely loved them. It was a late night for the kids since we didn't leave until 10:30 p.m. and they were both still awake when we left.

 Sunday:
- It was a relaxing day since we didn't get home until 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. The kids slept until 8:00 a.m.  Yes, we need to mark this down in the record books because that NEVER happens!!
- In the afternoon, Dave cleaned out the garage and replaced a few pieces of siding that the home inspector requested be done before the new home owner takes possession.
- After the kids took a nap, we headed to the Ankeny pool. They absolutely loved it and Little-C loved the splash park.

I wish every weekend could be as relaxing and fun as this past weekend.  I absolutely love spending time with my husband and kids!  I sometimes wonder what we did before they arrived.
