New Home Update - Nearing Completion!

It's only been about a month since our last update, but the tremendous progress continues.  We are nearing completion and its all really starting to come together as our official move date is only 24 days away!

In our last post, we documented that they had just hung the drywall.  The next couple of weeks a lot of progress was made, but the appearance of the house didn't change a lot.  The week of August 4th was spent taping and mudding all of the drywall.

Kitchen with the drywall taped and mudded.

The following week, the walls and ceilings were textured.
Same picture as above, one week later.
On August 13th a big milestone was met as the driveway and sidewalks were poured.
Freshly poured driveway!
Front step and sidewalk.
Dave will have A LOT of sidewalk to shovel in the winter!
The official "sold" sign appeared after the driveway was poured!
The week of August 25th, was a busy one, with the custom carpenters working on cabinets, trim and woodworking.
Kitchen cabinets installed!  Refrigerator will be on the left, stove and microwave will be on the right.  We opted for taller upper cabinets so they are all even across the top.  We also added the tall pantry cabinet on the right - can never have enough kitchen storage!
Island!  Sink will be in the middle, dishwasher on the left.
Banister installed.  Spindles will be metal.
On Tuesday, August 26th, Dave received a call from Randall the Superintendent with Remington Homes, wanting to discuss the fireplace as the one we picked out didn't fit well in our living room.  In a ten minute meeting, Travis, the carpenter drew a plan on the back of a board.  The next day this was our fireplace...
100% custom, one of a kind fireplace.  Dave's already ordered the bracket to hang his TV.  The white area around the fireplace will be brick.
They also completed the built in lockers in the mud room.
We can already visualize this full of shoes and coats!
Trim and doors installed.  They will be painted alabaster white.
Closet doors in Miss C's bedroom.
After the woodwork was installed, they stained the very next day.
Fireplace all stained.  And already being taped off for the painters.
Lockers all stained.
Mirror trim in the Master Bedroom.
The painters arrived on Friday, August 29th and worked through Sunday to get it all finished.
Door, doors, doors.  All painted and ready to be installed.
Front door all painted!
As the builders were working away, we have also been very busy.  On August 14th the sale of our current house officially closed, and we are now renters again for the first time in 12 years.
Our Realtor Colin Panzi has been great to work with!
We also have picked out our appliances.  We had a good idea of what we wanted before we looked, but it was fun picking them out nonetheless.  We opted for Frigidaire as they were one of the few brands that offered smudge/finger print proof stainless steel a must for our house.
This double oven has been on the wish list for a LONG time.  This one offers both ovens
in the same size, most have a smaller oven and a larger one.
We have lived with a tiny fridge for 12 years, as its the biggest one that would fit in our kitchen.  So this french door fridge has also been a long time dream.  This one has ice/water in the door, but we opted for one without.

We liked the clean look of the dishwasher.  The controls are on the top,
so the kiddos can't push any buttons!

The microwave.
Finally, we've been packing, and packing and packing.  We've also been purging and have huge piles of stuff to get sold, for Goodwill or the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.  While we think we will have plenty of storage in our new house, we don't want to fill it up with junk we don't need.
So many boxes, the kiddos had to use a John Deere to help us move them...
Next on the schedule is siding, deck, finished electrical, counter tops, flooring, etc.  Since we're only 24 days away, it'll all come together very quickly now!
