Kids Update - April 2014

Here’s a quick update from this past month.

Age:
R-man
 is 9 months
Little-C
is 2 (she turned two in December)
Little-C and R-man with their Easter Baskets. R-man wanted to just eat his straw.
Stats
R-man:
Weight: 19.7 lbs (47%)Height: 29 ½” (91%)
Head Circumference: 17 ¾” (52%)

Little-C
 is 28.2 lbs

Teeth:
R-man
has two bottom teeth and one in the front on the top.

Clothes:
R-man – we love to dress him in his little Under Armour and Nike outfits.
Little-C – she loves to dress herself these days and typically picks out her black dress shoes and cowgirl boots even if it doesn’t match the outfit. Unusually, they are worn with workout clothes but whatever…it’s just daycare.

Favorite Foods:
R-man
loves to feed himself these days and is kind of over baby food. He loves cut green beans, carrots, lil’ crunchies, goldfish, mini club crackers and chocolate. I gave him some of the bottom of a snickers and Kit Kat bar and he couldn't get enough.

Little-C
loves corn! I can’t wait until corn on the cob is ready because she loves eating it right off the cob.

Milestones:
R-man
enjoys scooting around. Little-C crawled at 8-months but not him. He would rather put the bottoms of his feet together and scoot along on his bottom to get what he needs. We try to put him on his tummy to crawl and he gets upset because he can’t go anywhere that way.

Little-C
is using new sentences that we aren’t sure where they came from.

  • OMG Mommy (seriously, since when did two year olds start talking this way?)
  • She has learned her last name so she enjoys saying, C Wilwerding, Ryan Wilwerding, Mommy Wilwerding, Daddy Wilwerding, Grandma Wilwerding and Grandpa Wilwerding.
  •  No Mommy, I do it myself (When Dave or I try to help her get ready for daycare or school as we call it most days.)
  • I slide down the whole way (She loves going to the park and going down the slide. Getting her to leave is a different story.)
  • Mommy, don't go bye-bye (I recently went on a work trip to St. Louis and she didn't want me to leave. Totally broke my heart but it does us both good to have a few nights away.)
Favorite Things:
Little-C
  • Playing outside:  When it’s sunny and we allow her to wear shorts to daycare she’ll drop her things off in the house and request to go outside. We have to be careful because she can get out the back door since we have levers on our doors.
How cool do I look in my new glasses?
  • Gardening:  She absolutely loves to help Dave garden and enjoys picking the tomatoes and cucumbers, or she did last summer.  Teaching our kids how food is grown at a young age is important. I want my kids to understand how the carrots and tomatoes got to the grocery store.
Using her new gardening tools the Easter bunny brought her.
  • Taking care of her brother: We are fortunate that little-C lover her little brother. If we are getting ready in the morning we can tell her to go play with her brother and she’ll do it. Usually, she’ll roll him on his tummy and come tell us that R-man is doing tummy time. He hates tummy time and once she realizes this she’ll roll him back over and sit him up.
  • Dance class: We recently learned that dance class doesn't happen in the summer. Not sure how we'll break the news to her. She'll be devastated
Stretching during dance class.
R-man
  • Clapping:  He loves to clap his hand. When you’re singing a song he’ll clap or when you say “yeah” he’ll clap. We are thankful for his daycare teaching him these things.
  • So Big: We recently learned that when we say, “so big”, R-man will raise his hands in the air. He obviously loves daycare and how interactive they are with the kids!
  •  Singing outside: He loves swinging outside and as soon as you stop to take him out he’ll look back at the swing, hoping he’ll be put back in it.

  •  Johnny Jumper: He loves hanging out, jumping in the doorway in the morning when we are trying to get ready. Little-C pretends it’s an actual swing and usually has him swinging away. He loves it though!
He loves it so much he falls asleep in it.
Sleep: We recently tried getting both kids ready to go down between 7:30-8. It’s amazing how much better they get up in the morning and how much more enjoyable the night is for Dave and I once they go down. We can get house projects complete before it’s time for us to go to bed as well.

Health: R-man had ear tubes put in to clear the jell-o like fluid that had been in his ears for three straight months!
