Thanksgiving Holiday & IA vs. NE Game 2015

Our family spent the Thanksgiving holiday at home again this year. It is quite nice because we can take the day easy and not over eat! We got to celebrate with the art they made at daycare. I often wonder how they get such a nice looking hand because whenever I've tried it doesn't look quite like this.

The turkey and saying that R-man brought home.
We woke up Thanksgiving morning and headed out to Bass Pro to get the kids photo with Santa. The entire way to Altoona we were hyping them up about not being scared. The great thing about going on Thanksgiving is...no lines! We walked right up to Santa and the kids got to spend time with him. We were surprised that R-man wasn't scared of him at all. He told Santa he wanted a big John Deere combine like his cousin and a John Deere Gator. As if they need another gator, but I guess he doesn't like his sister riding in his so he must feel she needs her own. Little-C told Santa the typical item any girl wants, a doll.
Trying to get the kids to smile was another story.

After we visited Santa, we headed home for naps and to put up the Christmas trees. We got a new 9' tree this year so we were excited to get it put up.

On Thursday evening, we went to bed fairly early because we were getting up to venture to Lincoln, NE the next day for the Iowa vs. Nebraska game. You might wonder...why did they go to the game when they are ISU fans. Well, good friends asked us to go and we really wanted to see Memorial Stadium.

Before the game, we enjoyed some food and drinks at an Irish Pub near the stadium. We were really trying to warm ourselves up before the game. We knew it was going to be in the teens with windchill once the game started. I wasn't excited about that part.

After a few hours, we ventured to Memorial Stadium. The temps were in the low 20's, but with the windchill it was expected to be in the teens. None of us were excited about that.
Memorial Stadium - the home of the Huskers.
As we entered the sea of red, it was neat to see the 90,000 fans packed shoulder to shoulder to cheer on their favorite team. Since Dave and I didn't care who won, it was neat to watch those around us. Let me tell you...those Husker fans are die hard fans.

Here comes those Huskers.
Here come those Hawks.
A touchdown by the Huskers meant the red balloons were flying! We didn't have any balloons to let fly, but it was fun watching them all.

We tried to capture the moment at the game with a few fun photos! Our smiles are deceiving because we really were cold.

We left at the end of the third quarter, but Iowa was up when we left. It would have been fun to see them carry that trophy to show their 12-0 record, but we were too cold to stay to see that happen.

Dave and I at the game! Taking the gloves off for a photo was chilling.
After the game we ventured back to my sister's house in Elkhorn to stay the night. Dave and I were both exhausted and cold once we arrived.

The kids had a great time with their cousins while we were at the game. Getting them to sleep was challenging after being wound up all day.

On Saturday morning, we had a quick breakfast and hit the road. The kids begged to stop by the farm, but I told them just a for a little bit. The kids enjoyed seeing the cows and seeing Grandma and Grandpa. The kids do not care how cold it is...they always have to go see the cows in person. Seing them from the window of the house is never enough.

After we spent a few hours at the farm, we went to eat with Grandma. The kids loved the place because there were deer heads all over. R-man kept wanting to touch them.

Grandma and the kids.
As you can tell, he was excited about the deer.
We were thankful for the relaxing Thanksgiving weekend, but December is right around the corner so it will be busy with Christmas gatherings.

Here's to a delightful December from the Wilwerding family.
