Weekend wrap up (10.24.15-10.25.15) - Harvest and Police

We had an extremely busy weekend a few weeks ago visiting the Police Department and my parents farm. After we were at my friend's farm, the kids have been begging to go to grandpa and grandma's farm! Plus, we wanted to get home to help harvest before they finished up.

Saturday morning, we ventured to see the Police Officers. R-man kept talking how he wanted to give the Police Officers a hug. He did just that!
Checking out the Des Moines Bomb Squad Bearcat.

They each couldn't wait to sit in the big black truck as they had called it. It was pretty cool to see the inside of it!
Typical, R-man is driving!
They also enjoyed sitting in the Police car! I warned them beforehand not to touch any of the buttons inside of the car.

Once the kids checked out the cars, we ventured indoors to try on the Police outfits! Neither of them was so sure about it. We talked about how Police Officers are good people and you should never be scared of them. Sometimes, R-man will tell me to go faster in the car. I tell both of my kids, Mommy has to go the speed limit so we don't make the Police Officer upset. They both understand this now!

After we left the Police Station, we headed home to the farm. The kids could barely wait to get there. While my Mom watched the kids, I ventured up to one of the farms with Dave and my brother Ray. We had to shovel one side of the grain bin out because the corn was wet. We loaded it into the truck then we had to auger it back in the bin so that it could mix with the dry corn. The grain elevators will not accept grain that is too wet because it get's moldy. It must be within a certain moisture rate to sell it.

I had to go in the auger wagon to level it out so it didn't overflow. I stayed close to the side just in case there was an air pocket. It always scares me about being sucked in.

Me about to drive Dad's new tractor to move it ahead!
Ray also worked on leveling out the truck. An auger wagon and truck didn't empty the bin, but it got the corn low enough that it was dry after emptying almost one ring of the grain bin.

After we had enough corn out, it was time to put it back into the grain bin to mix it with the dry corn. My brother Ray was in charge of getting the auger in the middle of the hole at the top of the bin. I don't go up there because I dislike heights. I'm fine to the top of the ladder before it goes on the roof, but that's when I start to shake.
Making sure the auger is in the middle.
In the next photo, you can see he's at the top looking in the bin. It's a nice view from up there, but not one I'm willing to do.

Once we had the auger up and running, it was time to begin combining! The kids couldn't wait, but after a few passes they wanted to ride with Dave in the tractor. Plus, my legs were about to fall off from holding both of them.

Coming to the end of the row.
Once our hopper was full, it was time to unload the corn. The kids thought this was really cool watching it dump out of the combine auger.
Emptying the combine.
The kids and I in the combine as we were unloading the corn. This was the  best selfie I could get of all four of us.
My Dad, the kids and I!
Grandpa even let him drive the combine. He was so excited.
The best photo we could get! He had to take Mindy's dog along for a ride too.
The best selfie I could get of R-man and I.
After we got close to the grain bin, we stopped to let R-man ride with Dave. My legs were so tired.

The kids needed one last photo opportunity in the tractor tire and with Daddy and Grandpa.

It was a bit too bright to look at the camera.
It was a tad bit bright with the sun setting in the west.
After we were done combining, we headed to ride the horses. The kids had a great time and both of them even rode the horse by themselves. I was honestly kind of surprised.
Not too happy the horse stopped to eat grass.
Little-C so proud to be riding the horse all by herself.

Both of them beaming from ear to ear!
After we got back to my parent's farm, it was time to check out the cows! Both of them just love staring at how big they are.

And, farming doesn't end when you go into the house! It continues with the play animals and trucks. He keeps saying he wants farm things for Christmas!

Even when we got home, his cows had to go for a ride in his Gator! He's a farm kid at heart already. Hopefully he learns the work ethic of growing up on the farm like I did. I thank my parents everyday for teaching me what I know and have learned today!
