Weekend wrap up (Nothing Compares to the Iowa State Fair) 8.20.15-8.23.15

Our weekend began on Thursday when we headed to the Iowa State Fair as a family. We weren't sure how long we'd make it since our kids are small, but we made it 6 1/2 hours! As you can see from the photos, we had a fabulous day with beautiful weather.

On the way to the fair, we dressed the kids in warm clothes because it was a bit chilly that morning.
Super thrilled to be going to the fair.
Wondering where we are taking him again.

We began the day at Little Hands on the Farm. There is usually a line for this exhibit area so we knew we had to get it done early in the day.
Little-C scared to death to get an egg. R-man didn't care one bit.
It was a nightmare getting him off the tractor.
Loving to drive the John Deere.
R-man had a blast milking the cow.
We couldn't leave the fairgrounds without sitting on the John Deere equipment. Grandpa Bruck would be proud of how brand loyal these kiddos are.
It's just like R-man's gator, only bigger!
Our annual tractor tire photo.
We had to visit the Animal Learning Center, but we weren't in there long. Little-C hated it because it smelled. She's certainly a girly-girl.
Both kids amazed with the baby pigs.
The day wouldn't be complete without a ride on the sky-glider. Dave was scared to take the kids on it, but this is the only ride I really like!
A selfie of R-man and I.
Dave and Little-C.
We had to stop by the Farm Bureau booth to see our friends, Mark and Julie Kenney. Little-C was excited because her friend was on the poster that goes to her daycare!
The highlight of the day was R-man feeding the goats. Dave's cousin's daughter, who was the flower girl in our wedding 12-years ago was showing goats at the fair. R-man got brave towards the end and even gave the goat a kiss on the nose.
Goat, you want this food. That's what he kept saying to the goat.
Going in for the kiss. I missed him actually kissing the goat.
I dislike rides, so Little-C had to go down the giant slide by herself since Dave was holding R-man. R-man loved it and ran for the stairs to go ahead. C said, that was scary Mommy.

While in the Varied Industries Building, we had to stop by to have our photo taken with CY.

The Iowa Food & Family Project sand sculpture in the Varied Industries Building.
The day wouldn't be complete without seeing the big boar. The kids weren't impressed and Little-C said it smelled.

It was a disaster to get both kids to look and smile at the camera, this is when we decided to head home.
We couldn't call it a day without visiting Over the Top ice-cream shop in Pleasant Hill.

On Friday, daycare was closed so we both took the day off. I made a few cakes for a friends birthday party! They both turned out very nice.
Fondant chocolate cake.
Buttercream white cake.
On Saturday, my brother Ray and his son Ben came up to attend the Iowa State Fair. We enjoyed taking them to the Miracle League Park in Ankeny and Orange Leaf for ice-cream before the headed home.

Enjoying a little ice-cream at Orange leaf before heading home.
