Kids Update (July)

Here’s a quick update from this past month.

R-man is officially 1-year and Little-C is 2 yrs. and 7 mths. This past year has went by so quick. It makes me sad when I reflect back on how our lives have changed. I no longer have a little boy, I almost have a toddler that can walk.
A special thanks to Kari Bruck Photography for the awesome photos!
Age:
R-man is 12 months (I can't believe this past year went by so quick.)
Little-C is 2 yrs. 7 mths.

Stats:
  • R-man
    • Weight: 22.4 lbs. (66%)
    • Height: 30.8" (85%)
    • Head Circumference: 18 (40%)
  • Little-C is 31 lbs.
Teeth:
R-man has 8 teeth. A few on the top look like they are working their way through.

Little-C has a clean bill of health with her teeth. Her first visit to the dentist was on July 6 and she did excellent. Erica her dental hygienist was even able to floss and clean her teeth. It's not often they get to do that on someone her age.

Being such a big girl waiting to have her teeth cleaned.
Erica cleaning her teeth and she didn't move.

Dr. Chad Wagner checking her teeth to assure all is okay. She wouldn't let her toothbrush go!
Clothes:
R-man – He is wearing 12-18 months clothes now, but is wearing 18 month pajamas. His 12-months pajamas were a bit on the tight side and his sleeves were almost up to his elbows so we figured it was time to upgrade him on the size. He is a tall kid and we're hoping he stays that way to be a star basketball player.

Little-C – She is wearing 3T clothes. We are thankful that it is summer because she can wear comfortable shorts and get them down easily herself when it's time to go potty. Yes, our lives revolve around making sure she has no accident when we are home.

Favorite foods this month:  R-man loves eating the following foods:
  • Noodles
  • Pizza - Basically just the crust.
  • Bread
  • Lima beans
  • Freeze pops - He seriously can't get enough of them.
  • Ice Cream - He'll sit there and beg like a bird for more.
  • Watermelon If he's extremely hungry, he could eat an entire slice.
  • Hot dogs - He loves them, but we usually take the skin off of them.
  • Cantaloupe - He likes it, but not as much as he loves watermelon.
  • Lucky Charms - Just the marshmallow's - he'll dig them out and leave the cereal.
I'm so big!  Yes, he's a messy eater.

Little-C loves:
  • Watermelon
  • Corn on the cob - She can eat an entire ear, but wants to butter the ear herself. We usually fake the salt and pepper so she thinks she's getting some.
  • Tacos - I never thought she'd love them, but she can eat an entire taco by herself.
  • Cantaloupe
  • Pop tarts - She has to have one everyday for breakfast at daycare.

Milestones:
R-man:
  • Crawls: We are so excited when he started to crawl, but he doesn't do it very often. He typically scoots where he needs to go.
  • Pulls himself up to everything: He can whip up to anything that is taller than he is.
  • Shakes his head no: If you ask him something, he'll shake his head "no."  Not sure if he knows that he's using it properly, but at one that is very good!
  • Books: He absolutely loves the touch and feel books and loves turning the pages. When you put the book down to get a new one, he can't wait to get it open.
He sleeps so peacefully.

He's such a little helper - even when you can't use his help.
New things they've learned and/or do:
R-man:
  • Say's dog: Well it really sound like "daaa," but we know what he's saying. If we go for a walk and he see's one walking, he is goes crazy!
  • Gestures 'all done': When he's finished eating and you say 'all done' he'll put his hands up and out to the side.
  • Waves bye-bye: If you say let's go bye-bye, he'll wave.  He has like a pageant wave, but I'm sure that will change as he get's older.
  • Say's tractor: It sounds like 'tra-tor,' but we are so proud that he actually knows what it is.
  • Say's yeah: He doesn't say it that often, but one night when we were sitting at the table, I asked him if he was all done and he said, "yeah."  Little-C just looked at me and said Mom, "Ryan just said yeah."
  • Points: He is beginning to point at so many things. When he points he has his pointer finger and thumb out and extends his arm as long as it will go.
They both love going for walks and Little-C will often tell me to run faster if I decide to run.
She's my little motivator.

Little-C:
  • Sings new songs almost everyday. Below are new ones that she's been singing:
    • There's a hole in the bottom of the sea
    • Hokey pokey
    • Five green and speckled frogs, sitting on a log, eating some most delicious bugs
    • Ring around the rosy
  • Cares for her brother: If R-man is crying, she'll go up to him and say, it's okay you don't have to cry anymore. She is so nurturing at 2, it makes me a proud mama!
  • High maintenance: When we go shopping, she has to have her car keys in her purse just like Mommy. She also has to reapply lip stick several times throughout the shopping trip. This could be a problem if this continues as she get's older.
Favorite Things:
R-man
  • Hugs: He absolutely loves hugging people, especially his Mom. Whenever I come into the room, he can't get away from that person soon enough to get into my arms. I love that!!
  • Water table: He got a water table for his birthday and loves it. He's usually soaked when he's finished, but then we know he's had a great time.
  • Kangaroos: Dave and I have two kangaroos in our room that we got in Australia. They are sitting on our bed stand and whenever he see's them he can't wait for us to put him up there so he can get them down. If they aren't there when he's in the room, he isn't happy.
  • Cars: He loves to zoom the cars back and forth on the wood floor.
  • Walking behind things: The metal Melissa & Doug shopping cart that my parents got for Little-C when she was a baby has been extremely popular for him. It's heavy enough that he can wiggle it just a little so he doesn't fall down on his knees as he creeps forward.
  • Looking in the shower: Whomever is in the shower, he'll find you if the door has been left open. Not sure what his obsession is, but he usually ends up wet by the time we catch him.
  • Cozy Coupe: He loves hanging out in this thing as much as his sister.
He's dry here, but he wasn't when he was finished with his bucket.

Such a cute smile!
Loving their Cozy Coupe's.
Little-C
  • Bounce house:  She loves when people come over and play in her bounce house.
  • Make up: She loves pretending to put on make up.
  • Reading books: She loves to look through her stacks of books and find ones that she hasn't read in a while.
  • Babies: She absolutely loves caring for her little babies. She'll talk to them just like I talk to R-man so it's apparent that she pay's attention when I'm taking care of her brother.
  • Her new house: She loves taking people to her new house and showing them her room. Right now the house is in Tyvek paper and she'll tell you her house is white. Well, the siding isn't on it yet, but it will be soon.
  • Showers: She loves taking extremely long showers and sings during the entire time.
  • Loves the pool: When we've gone to the pool, she is extremely sad when we have to go home.
Taking her babies everywhere.
R-man and Little-C enjoying the pool.

Worst Things:
 Little-C
  • Monsters: Not sure where she learned about monster's but it freaks her out at nights when the house creeks.
  • Taking a bath: Lately she doesn't mind taking a bath but once in a while she'll tinkle in the tub, even though we sit her on the potty before going into the water. One would think she was in trouble because she'll grab all of her toys, put them away and frantically jump out. Then she'll say, "get my Ryan out" because he is usually taking a bath with her.
  • Sitting in her poopy pull up: Yes, you read this right. When she has to go, she'll go hide and then come out and find you when she's done. She's gone on the potty a few times, but it must scare her to do it the rest of the time. We've realized that pull-up's are much easier to clean up.
  • Spiders: She hates spiders, but I've taught her how to kill them when she sees one. If she sees a bug in the driveway, she'll step on them.
Sleep:
  • R-man goes down between 7:15 and 7:30.
  • Little-C goes down around 7:30 and 8:00.
Health:
  • R-man was healthy this week and thankfully he didn't have to be on any medicine this month.
  • Little-C was healthy as well. She got bit by a few spiders, but they quickly healed. She also has pretty skinned up knees because she'll run and trip and then down she goes.
