Kids Update (January and mid-February 2015)

Here’s a quick update from this past month.

Both of the kids have become very independent and often play together in their room so they don't have to hang around Dave and I. In a way this is nice because we can get things done, but when they turn quiet it's usually not a good sign.

Age:
R-man is 18 months
Little-C is 3 yrs. 1 month

Stats:
R-man is:
  • Weight: 24 lbs. 3 oz. (50% for his age)
  • Height: 33.5" (84% for his age - hopefully he's a basketball player!)
  • Head: 19" (74% for his age)
Little-C is 34.6 lbs.

Teeth:
R-man has all of his teeth now. A few of the incisor teeth on the bottom haven't quite grown out all the way, but they are working towards it. We've had several biting incidents at daycare the past few months. It's the age though, and we know he'll grow out of it. Or we hope since his sister did!  Don't worry, he isn't always the one doing the biting. He sometimes get's bitten by his friends too.

Little-C's teeth are great and she had another successful visit to the dentist! She even allowed them to clean her teeth.
Little-C hates smiling for photos. When we break out the camera she usually
looks the other way!

Clothes:
R-man – He is wearing mostly 18-24 month clothes and size 6 shoes. He loves his Nike shoes. We tried to buy him another pair of cute loafer shoes, but he doesn't like them and refuses to wear them.

Little-C – She is wearing 3T clothes and size 8 shoes. Sometimes her outfits she wears to daycare are interesting, but we figure it's just daycare, not church!

Favorite foods this month:  R-man loves eating the following foods:
  • Broccoli - He'll eat this before anything else on his tray.
  • Spaghetti - Mainly the noodles, but occasionally he'll eat the hamburger.
  • Zucchini muffins - He will eat about half of a one until his tummy is full.
  • Corn chips - He could eat just these for dinner if we allowed him to.
  • Green beans - He loves them and he's learned there are beans inside of them so he'll break them open and just eat the beans.
  • Strawberries - I would think they would be too tart for him, but he absolutely loves them.
  • Frosting - If I am making a cake or cookies, he could eat a whole bunch of frosting. It's not a good idea to allow him to eat it before bedtime. We learned our lesson the hard way!
Little-C loves about anything, but really only eats when she's good and hungry.

Once a month at daycare they have a quick meal night after we pick the kids up.It makes for an easy dinner when they can eat at daycare.
Milestones:
R-man:
  • Walks up and down the stairs like an adult: He has to be just like his sister so he is determined to walk up and down the stairs like his sister. He'll hold onto the wall and go up and down.
  • Books: He loves books and is always sitting right beside the teacher when we pick him up from daycare. The "Little Blue Truck" is his favorite book. We think it's because of all the animal sounds.
  • First haircut - We finally took him to Sport Clips to get his first haircut. His hair was getting a bit long and curly in the back. He wasn't that impressed with it.
He was less than impressed.
Little-C:
  • Potty trained during nap: We have finally eliminated her pull-ups at nap time and she does just fine. As long as her teachers make her go potty before she lies down, she's good!
  • Knows how to navigate YouTube videos on her iPad - We are happy she can entertain herself, but we are still baffled by how she finds some of the play-dough videos she watches.
He loves playing in the cabinets and pretending to hide.
New things they've learned and/or do:
R-man:
  • Say's I Love You Mommy and Daddy: It's so adorable when he says this phrase. It melts our hearts a bit because he'll come give us a hug and say I Love You while patting our back.
  • Say's What happened: If he's playing with this iPad or her drops something and can't find it, he'll say, "What happened" and put his hands out.
  • Say's I don't know: If you ask him where something is or where his sister is, he'll respond by saying I don't know. It's not truly clear that that's what he's saying, but Dave and I can understand his lingo.
  • Sings ABCs - He will sing along with his ABCs if you sing them.
  • Sings Happy Birthday - It's so cute when he sings because he really only says, "Happy Birthday" and laughs during the rest.
Little-C:
  • Goes to bed on her own - Usually we've had to lay with her until she falls asleep, but lately she'll say, I'm going to my room and falls asleep. It's amazing when she does this on her own!!
  • Asks her brother to pick on her: Yes, you read that right. In the morning when we are getting ready, she'll say, "R-man, come pick on me." In the evening, she hates when her brother picks on her, but somehow she finds it okay in the mornings.
He loves to be pushed around in the baby stroller.
Favorite Things:
R-man
  • Giving his girlfriend at daycare a hug and kiss: He is only 18-months, but already has a first love. When you say, "Do you want to tell Molly bye?" He'll walk across the room with a big smile on his face, give her a hug and kiss right on the lips. She acts the same way towards him. We should probably be concerned if this is starting at a young age.
  • Playing downstairs: Not sure why him and Little-C love to play downstairs, but once we get carpet they may not like it as much.
  • Sings - In church when we ware singing, he'll pretend to sing as well. He wants to be heard, but I guess they since at daycare and the teachers can't really understand what he's saying.
  • Watching the Frozen movie - They would watch it every night if we allowed them too. The Frozen CD in the car is enough.
Little-C
  • Snow: She loves playing in the snow and watching Mom and Dad built a snowman. She usually writes in the snow with her colored water.
  • Plays with her babies: She has learned how to put diapers on all of them and once in a while she'll pull up a chair to R-man's changing pad and white her babies because she said they had an accident. She is like a little Mommy at heart.
  • Loves to help bake: She loves to help bake and put things in the mixer. She also loves to help bake sugar cookies and cut them out.
Little-C loves to play with her doll house she got for her birthday.
She loves to play dress up.
Sleep:
  • R-man goes down between 7:00 and 7:30. He usually takes up at least once a night, but hopefully we get him broke of that soon.
  • Little-C goes down between 8:00 and 8:30.
Health:
Both kids have had ear infections and R-man was just treated for bronchitis. I'm hoping they don't catch the scary flu that we've seen this winter. R-man also ended up in the ER due to hitting his head on the front door hinge. He didn't cry much, but it sure looked bad to Dave and I. He had to have a little glue to assure he didn't have a scar when he got older.

His rather nasty looking cut.
Pretty proud of himself here.
